DALLAS – What do one President of the United States and governor of Texas, three local news anchors, seven local mayors, and 12 Dallas Cowboys franchise members have in common? They are all former Father of the Year Awards honorees.

The Father of the Year Award honors fathers – respected business leaders who are deeply involved with and an inspiration to their family and community.  This year’s honorees are Douglas H. Scott Murray, former channel five sports anchor, current chairman and CEO of Murray Media and a Father of the Year honoree in 2002, is the luncheon’s Master of Ceremonies.

Money raised from the luncheon will benefit local charities benefitting children and families in our area: Limbs for Life Foundation, Tim Brown Foundation, and A Wish With Wings, Inc., and the Father of the Year Scholarship Fund and Sylvan Landau Founder's Scholarship Fund.

The Father of the Year Awards was founded 36 years ago by Sylvan Landau, former executive vice president, major stores, at the Dallas Market Center . The committee has honored 107 outstanding fathers and has raised nearly $4 million for more than 75 children’s charities to date.

"These three honorees not only exemplify great fatherhood, but also inspire others to follow their leadership in business, the community and, most importantly, their own families,” said Greg Sampson, chairman of the 2011.

Father of the Year Awards. “Celebrating their lasting legacy of excellence will also help benefit our worthy children’s charities and scholarship programs that will provide education, training and encouragement to future community leaders.”
